Claudia Myatt

Marine atrist, author and illustrator

Claudia’s colourful watercolours are inspired by coastal scenes and landscapes, but it is for her marine art that she is best known, from cartoon style harbour scenes to detailed portraits of traditional sailing boats.  She believes that art should be fun – and that a painting should lift your spirits every time you look at it!

(("One more comment about this being better than a stuffy office and I'll throttle him " ))

Since moving to Pembrokeshire in 2004, the Daugleddau has been a constant source of inspiration, both for sailing, walking and sketching.  Claudia explores the creeks and bays of the river in her 1951 wooden lugsail dinghy, and for longer trips sails with her family in ‘Torhilda’, a 28’ 1933 gaff cutter which was saved from the scrap heap and lovingly restored by her husband over a ten year period.

Over the last few years Claudia has taken the fun element of her work more seriously, producing a popular series of cartoon-style sailing manuals for the Royal Yachting Association.  The books are aimed at children though it’s rumoured that novice adults have been finding them rather useful too!
